Sense and Sensibility (30th Anniversary) BBFC Rating: (U)

  • Directed by Ang Lee
  • 1995 | 136mins | United Kingdom, United States | BBFC Rating: (U)

One of Ang Lee’s masterpieces, part of our homage to 250 years of Jane Austen, and our editor’s joint favourite rom-com (with When Harry Met Sally obviously). It’s witty, beautiful and sad, gave Kate Winslet her breakout role and cemented all of the rest of the cast as national treasures. Our editor says it’s one of the few films she’s seen that’s better than the book, and before you start throwing things at her, the New York Review of Books said the film had “made a number of improvements on Austen’s original”! Enjoy it all again, or if you haven’t seen it before come and see what all the plaudits are about.
