Richard Hawkins’ thought-provoking mix of wartime drama, behind the scenes chamber piece and psychological study of people pushed to their limits. The film opens like a British Pathé newsreel, on the Orkney Islands, in the summer of 1943, with a motley crew assembled to shoot three soft porn films to boost the troops’ morale, draws in the viewer with the promise of irreverence before confronting them with the emotional wreckage left in the wake of conflict. Suberb performances from Ollie Madigan, Ronnie Ancona, Jack Bandeira, Natalie Quarry, Ben Bela Böhm, John McCrea
