Eight stories. One ancient county. A world of legends.
Once Upon a Time in Suffolk is a 100-minute feature anthology bringing together eight original stories inspired by East Anglian myths and legends, alongside imaginative new interpretations of classic fairy tales.
Locally shot and produced
Created by filmmakers, performers and crew from across East Anglia, and coordinated by Film Suffolk, the film moves between fantasy, mystery, humour, magical realism and darker folklore while celebrating the landscapes and stories of the region.
Exclusive Ely Screening with Post-Film Q&A
Don't miss the opportunity to see the film on the big screen exclusively (within Ely) at Ely Community Cinema. Once Upon A Time in Suffolk is not currently scheduled to play at Cineworld.
Following the film, we will be joined by members of the film's production team on stage to tell us more about bringing these legends to the screen - more details to be announced shortly.
Optional Pre-Film Ely Walking Tour In Conjunction with Visit Ely "Spooky Season 2026"
Whilst Once Upon A Time In Suffolk is not a collection of scary stories, why not make an evening of it by adding on Visit Ely's "Fenland Folklore: Strange Tales & Ancient Legends" city walk from 6pm, finishing up at The Maltings around 7pm ready for the film at 7.30pm, and learn about some of our own local tales of witches and wise folk, strange beasts, omens, customs, superstitions and things that simply can't be explained.
This combined event is part of Visit Ely / Oliver Cromwell's House "Spooky Season 2026".
For further details of the walking tour and to book both the tour and the film/Q&A for one special price of £22.00, please visit the Oliver Cromwell's House website by clicking here. If the combined event is sold out then email us at boxoffice@elycinema.org.uk and we may be able to add further tickets.
To book just the film and Q&A but not the walking tour, book on this site by clicking on the "19:30" show time below.
