Welcome to Ely Community Cinema’s website. Please be aware that if you continue to browse and use this website you are agreeing to comply with and be bound by the terms and conditions below, which together with our privacy policy and any other terms and conditions set out on this website govern our relationship with you.
When we refer to “Ely Community Cinema”, or “we” or “us” or “our”, this refers to Ely Community Cinema CIC, which owns this website and operates the Ely community cinema. References to our “website” is to www.elycinema.org.uk. The term “you” and “your” refers to the user or viewer of this website, everyone who purchases a ticket and everyone who attends our screenings and other events.
We are grateful to City of Ely Council for allowing us to use the auditorium at The Maltings, Ship Lane, Ely, Cambridgeshire, CB7 4BB for our community cinema. Most of our screenings and events will take place at The Maltings but on occasion we may hold screenings and events at other venues. References to “the Maltings” will therefore include alternative venues we may use, and references to “auditorium” and “premises” are to the auditorium and premises at the Maltings and at other venues we may use for our screenings and events.
- Tickets can be bought online via our website, or in person at the Maltings on the day of the screening. If booking in advance you will need to bring confirmation of purchase with a seat number on the day. Tickets bought in advance and not presented at the entrance to the auditorium may be cancelled without refund.
- Payments are accepted by debit cards and certain credit cards (Visa and Mastercard only). We can unfortunately not accept cash payments.
- Prices are as described at the point of purchase, including without limitation on this website and include VAT. However, we reserve the right to change these prices for special events and screenings. Any such changes will be notified to you when booking.
- Discounts Essential companions of disabled people who need assistance to access the cinema will be admitted free of charge. The disabled customer needs to be a holder of a valid Cinema Exhibitors’ Association card. You can find further details about this card, including how to apply, at https://www.ceacard.co.uk/
- Tickets are non-refundable in all circumstances, unless the performance you have booked is cancelled by us, and any tickets that are lost, stolen or damaged will not be replaced. You acknowledge that the cancellation rights contained in the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 (as amended) do not apply to the services we offer.
- Cancellation or postponement of a screening: In the event of cancellation or postponement of a screening or event, any refunds to be made to the purchaser will be at our discretion and will be made to the original purchaser to the card used for the booking. Our liability will be limited to the refund of the price of the ticket only.
- Age Restriction children of all ages are welcome unless the screening or event has an age restriction. Children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.
You are required to observe the conditions laid down by The British Board Of Film Classification Certificate for the film being exhibited:
U or PG - anyone can see the film. Where the film is PG, it should generally not unsettle a child aged around eight, although parents and caregivers should be aware that some scenes may be unsuitable for more sensitive children.
12A - not generally suitable for children younger than 12. No one younger than 12 may be permitted to attend a 12A cinema screening unless they are accompanied by an adult.
15 - No one younger than 15 may see any 15-rated content in a cinema.
18 - No one younger than 18 may see 18-rated content in a cinema.

We may require photographic proof of age for entry to all 12A, 15 and 18 certificate screenings. Where acceptable proof of age is not produced when requested, this will result in refused entry to the relevant screening.
- Parent and Baby Screenings - Only adults accompanying a baby (up to 12 months old) will be admitted, but a group of up to four adults can accompany a baby.
For health and safety reasons, we can’t allow buggies inside the auditorium but you may leave these in reception. The only exception is if you have twins or multiple babies in which case their buggies are allowed.
Parents or guardians are requested to ensure their baby is kept on their lap throughout the screening. This is for the baby’s safety as the seating at the Maltings’ are flip up seats.
- Latecomers will be admitted where possible, but this will be at the discretion of the Duty Manager. Latecomers, if admitted, may be requested to sit elsewhere than their allocated seats in order to minimise disturbance to our other cinemagoers.
- Accessibility: We are keen to welcome as broad a cross section of the community to our cinema as possible. Please see our Accessibility policy for details of the facilities available.
- Food and drink bought at the Maltings bar may be brought into the cinema. However, we reserve the right to refuse admission or eject anyone deemed by our volunteers or staff to be intoxicated.
- Security: We reserve the right to conduct security searches to ensure our customers’ safety, and remove or refuse admission to anyone carrying any items that in our staff or volunteers’ reasonable opinion prove a security risk. Any person who in the opinion of our staff or volunteers is causing a nuisance or disruption or who may in any way be a danger to themselves or any other person may also be removed or refused admission.
- CCTV: CCTV is in operation at the Maltings for the protection of everyone attending the venue and prevention and detecting of crime.
- Smoking and vaping is not permitted anywhere inside the Maltings, including the auditorium.
- Mobile phones and any other devices must be switched off or on silent in the auditorium.
- Sound and visual recording of films and other copyright protected material, including without limitation trailers and adverts, is not permitted. Anyone found in breach will be asked to leave and we reserve the right to report the breach to relevant authority.
- Zero tolerance We will not tolerate any abuse of our staff, volunteers and customers in any form, whether verbally or physically. Anyone behaving in an abusive manner will be ejected from the premises and we reserve the right to report such a person to the police.
- Lost and Found Any items found or handed in to our staff and volunteers will be If found, we will pass on any items to the Maltings management who will hold these on the premises for a maximum of one month. However, for the purpose of hygiene certain items will be disposed of immediately such as soiled clothing or perishable goods. - Personal Items: Neither we nor the City of Ely Council accept any responsibility for the loss, theft or damage to any personal items you bring to the Maltings.
- Newsletter: Please sign up to our newsletter to receive regular updates on our community cinema. - Links to other websites: The website contains links to other websites and social media platforms which are not controlled by us. The fact that we may provide a link to any such website and social media platform does not mean that we endorse them. Such links are only provided for your convenience and you access them at your own risk.
- Nothing mentioned in these terms and conditions will affect your statutory rights.
